Horseback Riding Guidelines

Dear DMC Partners,

To ensure your clients have a seamless and unforgettable experience with Chucks Trail Riding Adventures LLC, we kindly ask that you review and relay the following critical guidelines to them prior to their scheduled ride. Sharing this information during the booking process helps prevent frustration, delays, or potential cancellation fees on the day of the excursion.  We will not refund guests that fall outside of these guidelines.

Please ensure your clients are fully aware of the following policies:

🕒 Timing, Arrival, & Re-booking

  • Departure Time: The time booked is the actual departure time of the trail ride.
  • Arrival Window: Guests must arrive and check in with our office 15 minutes prior to their scheduled ride. Tardiness impacts other guests and subsequent rides.
  • Late Policy: We reserve the right to deny the ride to tardy guests. If availability allows, we may reschedule them for the next similar ride, but this is not guaranteed and will incur any applicable per-person rate differences.

☀️ Arizona Heat Alert (May – End of September)

  • The dry Arizona climate can make the weather feel significantly hotter, and heat-related illness is a serious risk.
  • Guests must hydrate heavily the day prior to and the morning of their ride to avoid feeling faint or ill.
  • Please advise clients to avoid caffeine and alcoholic beverages and drink plenty of water before arriving.

🥾 Required Attire & Restricted Items

  • Pants: Long pants or jeans are required (no shorts above the knee).
  • Footwear: Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Absolutely no flip-flops, sandals, Crocs, or high heels.
    • Boots: Heel height must not exceed 1 inch.
    • Barefoot-style shoes (e.g., Vibram FiveFingers): Must be fully enclosed with a complete hard rubber sole (no buckles or straps).
  • Apparel/Bags: Jackets must be worn, not wrapped around the waist. No bags, purses, backpacks, or loose water bottles are permitted on the rider.
  • Wranglers will have water for riders if needed during an excursion, but ride must stop for guest to drink water then return bottle back to wrangler.

🔞 Age Limits & Minor Waivers

  • Minimum Age: All riders must be at least 7 years old (strict insurance requirement). Misrepresenting a child’s age waives all liability from our company. We reserve the right to request proof of age and will not hold a ride while a birth certificate is retrieved.
  • Minor Waivers: If a guest is bringing a minor child that is not their own, a digital waiver must be completed by the legal parent or court-appointed guardian via the “SIGN MINOR WAIVER” link in the booking confirmation or printed/signed from our website. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, or travel companions cannot sign on behalf of a parent. Legal guardians must provide a copy of the court/DCS appointment paperwork.

🪖 Safety Helmets

  • We highly recommend protective helmets and provide them for all riders. Guests choosing to decline a helmet must sign a refusal waiver.
  • Large Group Rides: For the safety of the minors, all minors on large group rides are required to wear a helmet, even if a parent has signed a waiver declining it.

📱 Phones & Photography

  • Selfie sticks are strictly prohibited as they spook the horses.
  • Cell phones must be kept in a front shirt pocket; back pockets risk the phone sliding out. We are not responsible for lost phones, and extra charges will apply if a team member must go back out onto the trail to locate a lost device.
  • Please do not have drones around the horses during a ride as this will cause horses to react in unpredictable ways.

🚫 Food, Beverage, Alcohol, & Smoking Policies

  • Outside Food & Drink: We enforce a strict no outside food or beverage policy (including snacks, sodas, alcohol, etc.) at our center. Violators and their guests will be asked to leave immediately without a refund.
  • Smoking & Alcohol: Smoking and alcohol are strictly prohibited during the ride. Guests who appear intoxicated or carry alcohol will be denied entry / ride (wagon or horseback) for the safety of our staff, other guests, and horses.

💪 Physical Requirements & Weight Restrictions

  • Weight Limit: For the health and safety of our horses and terrain navigation, there is a strict weight limit of 250 lbs.
  • Mounting: We do not use mounting blocks, stairs, stools, or rocks. Riders must be physically capable of supporting and managing their own weight to mount the horse with minimal assistance from the wrangler.
  • Health: Please inform us of any medical conditions at the time of reservation to ensure the activity is appropriate for you.  For safety reasons, pregnant women are not permitted to ride to ensure the safety of both the mother and the unborn child.  If you have a history of back, hip, or neck injuries, we advise against horseback riding as it could potentially aggravate your condition.

📝 Special Requests

  • While we make every effort to honor special comments or requests (such as requiring a larger horse, which must be requested ASAP), they are not guaranteed. No refunds will be issued on the day of the ride if a guest decides not to participate based on an unfulfilled request.

Thank you for your partnership and cooperation in preparing your clients for a safe, timely, and enjoyable desert adventure!
